309L-16 stainless steel stick (SMAW) electrode has similar usage as 309, but the 0.04% maximum carbon content increases resistance to intergranular corrosion. Conforms to AWS A5.4.

Features

  • Titania-type coating for either alternating current (AC) or direct current (DC) reverse polarity
  • 37% elongation (as welded)
  • 65,000 psi yield strength (as welded)
  • The carbon content (0.04% maximum) increases resistance to intergranular corrosion by reducing carbide precipitation
  • Conforms to ANSI/AWS A5.4 & ASME SFA 5.4 E 309L-16
  • 88,000 psi tensile strength (as welded)
  • Stainless steel 309L-16 electrode welds base metals of similar composition in wrought or cast form
  • Can sometimes weld dissimilar steels
  • Often used to weld type 304 and similar base metals (and L series) where corrosive conditions exist
