Vancar® -O is a tubular open arc wire which results in a deposit containing vanadium and tungsten carbide. The wear resistance of vanadium carbide is greater than that of chromium carbide but less than that of tungsten carbide. An advantage of vanadium carbide particles is that they dissolve during the welding operation and then reform in the deposit, providing an even distribution. Vancar can be used in hot wear applications up to 9000 F (4800 C). Deposits are not machinable and cannot be flame cut.
